Capital is a responsibility before it is an opportunity
I am a Venture Capital Partner and startup advisor with 25+ years of experience across venture investing, strategy, financial services, and enterprise technology.
I currently work with early-stage companies and founders across FinTech, enterprise platforms, and deep-tech, supporting them on market readiness, scalable go-to-market strategy, risk, governance, and scale—particularly in regulated and complex operating environments.
Prior to venture investing, I held senior leadership roles at DBS Bank (Regional Head – South India), Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Infosys, and CRISIL, where I led teams, built multi-geography franchises, and structured solutions across corporate banking, credit, risk management, and digital platforms.
My background allows me to evaluate startups through both an investment lens and an execution lens—with strong emphasis on business fundamentals, governance, customer adoption, and long-term value creation.
I hold an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad, a Computer Engineering degree, and executive training in Private Equity and Capital Markets. I am particularly interested in founders building durable businesses in regulated markets, financial infrastructure, and technology-led platforms.
Always open to thoughtful conversations with founders, investors, and ecosystem partners.
2022-2025
Partner at a SEBI-registered, sector-agnostic early-stage venture capital fund, focused on identifying and supporting high-potential startups across FinTech, enterprise platforms, deep-tech, and technology-enabled businesses.
Actively involved in deal evaluation, founder diligence, and investment decision-making, with emphasis on business fundamentals, market structure, governance, risk frameworks, and scalability.
Work closely with portfolio founders on go-to-market strategy, capital structuring, operating discipline, and enterprise adoption, particularly in regulated or complex environments.
Leverage 25+ years of operating and leadership experience across banking, financial services, and technology to bring an execution-oriented perspective to early-stage investing.
Engage with co-investors, angels, and ecosystem partners to support portfolio growth and long-term value creation.
2017-2018
Worked closely with early-stage and growth-stage startups as a strategic advisor, supporting founders across fundraising readiness, go-to-market strategy, governance, and risk frameworks.
Advised startups in FinTech, enterprise services, and technology-enabled businesses on:
• Capital structuring and working capital strategy
• Corporate governance and regulatory compliance
• Risk management and internal controls
• Investor communication and board preparedness
Acted as a bridge between founders and institutional capital, helping teams translate vision into execution-ready business models aligned with investor expectations.
Brought an investor-style lens to problem-solving, shaped by prior leadership experience in global banks and credit institutions.
Several engagements resulted in improved fundraising outcomes, stronger operating discipline, and clearer paths to scale.
2018-2021
Led regional strategy and P&L for one of Asia’s leading banks across South India, covering large corporates, mid-caps, emerging enterprises, startups, MNCs, and PSUs.
Evaluated and prioritized growth opportunities across sectors by assessing business models, cash-flow resilience, management quality, and risk-return trade-offs—skills directly transferable to early-stage investing.
Built and led cross-functional teams (relationship managers, credit analysts, product specialists) to structure bespoke financial and digital solutions, balancing innovation with regulatory discipline.
Served as administrative and regulatory head for the region, ensuring strong governance, adherence to internal controls, and compliance—providing first-hand insight into how enterprises and founders are assessed by institutional capital.
This role sharpened my perspective on what differentiates scalable, fundable businesses from fragile growth stories in regulated environments.
2004-2016
Led corporate banking coverage across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, managing relationships with promoter-led enterprises, large corporates, and institutional stakeholders across multiple industries.
Anchored credit evaluation and relationship strategy by analyzing capital structures, governance quality, execution capability, and downside risk, supporting informed deployment of capital.
Worked closely with CXOs, promoters, and boards to structure innovative financing solutions, aligning business objectives with long-term financial sustainability.
Grew franchise revenues significantly by identifying sector-level patterns and early signals—an approach that now informs my investment evaluation framework.
Developed a strong appreciation for founder quality, decision-making under stress, and capital discipline—factors that matter as much in startups as in large enterprises.
2002-2004
Led Asia-focused market entry and strategic partnership initiatives for the Finacle digital banking platform, working closely with banks, regulators, and ecosystem partners to enable scalable adoption of enterprise-grade financial technology. Originated, structured, and closed a category-defining e-banking transaction—Finacle’s first breakthrough deal in the region—demonstrating strong capabilities in cross-border deal execution, go-to-market strategy, and institutional sales.
Applied this experience to evaluate FinTech and Deep-Tech investment opportunities, with a focus on platform scalability, enterprise readiness, regulatory fit, and long-term defensibility. Brings an operator’s perspective to capital allocation, combining technology insight, commercial execution, and partnership-led growth to support portfolio companies from early adoption through regional scale.
1997-2002
Managed key transaction banking relationships and worked across trade finance, treasury, cash management, and operations, gaining end-to-end exposure to how businesses manage liquidity and risk.
Designed structured solutions that improved client cash flows and operational efficiency, strengthening understanding of unit economics, working capital cycles, and operational leverage.
Early exposure to multiple functions provided a strong foundation in how real businesses operate beneath financial statements—a perspective critical when assessing early-stage companies.
1996-1997
Conducted credit analysis and risk assessment across 30+ rating assignments covering a wide range of sectors including Banking, NBFCs, Telecom, Textiles, Chemicals, and Food Processing.
Evaluated businesses through a structured framework encompassing business model viability, industry structure, cash-flow sustainability, capital structure, and management quality—an analytical foundation directly relevant to early-stage investment assessment.
Assessed both quantitative metrics and qualitative risk factors, developing early judgment on downside risk, cyclicality, and resilience across sectors.
Gained exposure to sector-level pattern recognition, learning how external shocks, governance practices, and execution quality impact long-term outcomes.
This role provided a rigorous grounding in risk-first thinking, which continues to inform my investment approach—particularly when evaluating startups in regulated, capital-intensive, or long-cycle markets.
